Integral Colour Concrete Driveways – A New Kid on the Block!

Planet Surfacing recently supplied and fitted an integral colour driveway. This type of driveway is very popular in the United States and is becoming more and more popular in Britain.

An integral colour driveway is when concrete is infused with rich long-lasting fade resistant colour. The colour runs throughout the entire slab giving a beautiful, smooth, consistent finish. An advantage of this type of driveway is that the colour is permanent so even under harsh weather conditions and exposure to UV light the colour is not affected. It’s also evenly coloured so you wont ever get uneven patches of colour once the concrete has been laid.

Our clients opted for an integral colour driveway in pewter. When you are choosing a driveway an important part of it is the colour. Factors to consider include the existing colour of your house. Choosing the right colour for your driveway can make it look like a natural fit with your house. Alternatively, an important feature of your driveway might be to make it complement its natural surroundings, so you could opt for a colour that fits with the landscape.

You also need to think about whether you want to opt for a light or dark colour. Dark colours absorb the heat whereas light colours reflect it. In an area where there is a lot of shade, a light-coloured driveway can also create the feeling of more light than there actually is and brighten up a space.

Our clients chose the colour pewter based on what would complement the colour of the house – a modern bungalow with light coloured rendering and dark grey window frames and front door. You can see from the photographs included, the colour of the driveway looked great alongside the building.

As part of the installation process we left drainage areas within the concrete and also laid turf next to the driveway to break up the area, this also helps with drainage.
